GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY
The survey covered the fields bordering the
main tell on the west, north and east, as
well as, for the sake of testing the method
in the specific conditions of the site, some
areas on the main tell, where the presence
of archaeological remains was undoubted
(Areas "D" and "W").
The extent of the ancient city has been
of primary concern since the first season of
investigations on Arbid. Our own field
survey, conducted in 1996 for the purpose
of preparing a contour map of the site,
brought evidence of mostly Iron Age re-
mains situated under modern fields within
