ANTONI WIWULSKTS MATERIALS AND CORRESPONDENCES IN
BIBLIOTEKA SEMINARIUM DUCHOWNEGO AT WŁOCŁAWEK
Summary

Materials relating to Antoni Wiwulski (1877-1919),
a known Polish artist, designer and architect,
responsible among other things for the Grunwald
Monument at Cracow and Three Crosses at Vilnius (Pol.
Wilno), have come to light in the collections brought to
Włocławek in 1945 from the current capital of the
Lithuanian Republic by father Stanisław Nawrocki
(1879-1958). These materials have been divided into
two parts: l)Wiwulski's persona! documents, his letters
and two letters about him, 2) Wiwulski's drawings and
sketches by his own hand, as well as photographs of
works designed by him.
Of the personal documents, reports from his school
years have been preserved. Among the correspondences
are a score or more of Wiwulski's letters from the years
1893-1918 to his mother, Adela Wiwulska, as well as
numerous letters and post-cards from the period 1906-'14
to father Karol Lubianiec (1866-1942), master-builder of

the church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ at
Vilnius (Wilno), designed by Wiwulski. In these letters
addressed to the priest, Wiwulski writes about the design
of the aforementioned church and other architectural
projects undertaken by him, as well as matters of a
personal nature.
In the portfolio of works drawn by the artist's own
hand there include pencil sketches of the Three Crosses
at Vilnius/Wilno, several drawings of decorations for an
altar in the "Betania" chapel, also in Vilnius/Wilno, a
number of drawings with pastels showing part of a
forest, as well as sketches and drawings of several
figures together with some small pictures. The
photographs documenting stages in creating the
Grunwald Monument, as well as the chapel at Szydłów
and unrealised design of the church of the Most Sacred
Heart of Jesus Christ at Cracow and the church of the
same invocation at Wilno (Vilnius).
